S-Bahn chaos in Berlin: delays and failures through cable theft!
On June 18, 2025, the S-Bahn in Berlin occurred considerable disorders, which were particularly impressed by rush hour traffic. Like berlin live reported at 7:09 a.m. on after a signal had to be repaired in the area of the Grünauer Kreuz.
But that was not the only reason why the S-Bahn users had to be patient today. In addition to considerable signal disorders in the area of Treptower Park and Baumschulenweg. These disorders, which lasted for several hours and were only resolved around 10 a.m., caused further difficulties on lines S8, S9 and S85. This is confirmed by Berliner Kurier
long -term restrictions
The problems are not limited to today. By June 25th, passengers of the S-Bahn will have to expect restrictions on lines S1 and S7 between Wannsee and Schlachtensee/Grunewald. Here there will be regular trips and clock shifts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
From June 20, a second shock will also follow in northern Berlin: There will be a blocking requirement for work on the electronic signal box, which requires replacement traffic on two lines. And the non-end skills of the disorders continue: From July 4th, further construction work in the area of the S-Bahnhof Schöneweide will be announced, which will ensure closures and replacement traffic by July 7. Ultimately, the route between Priestweg and Blankenfelde for passengers of the S2 will no longer be accessible from July 25th, which means that alternative connections have to be searched.
cable theft and prevention measures
The theft of cables, especially because of the copper contained therein, is a recurring problem. In September of the previous year, return cables between the S-Bahn stations tree schools path and Schöneweide were already stolen, which also led to signal disorders. However, the numbers of the colored metal thefts in Berlin experienced a decline: in the first half of 2023 there were 73 thefts, 29 less than in the previous year. A decline of 38 cases was also recorded in Brandenburg in the first half of the year. This positive development is mainly attributed to preventive measures - among other things, patrolling civilian investigators of the federal police patrol and cables are marked with artificial DNA. These measures are said to make the sale of stolen cables considerably more difficult.
The S-Bahn users in Berlin are facing challenging days. A good hand and the possibility of considering alternative means of transport could make up the difference in the next few weeks.
