81-year-old cyclist from Seckbach missing – police ask for help!
On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the 81-year-old Mr. Baumgart from Frankfurt-Seckbach disappeared after leaving his apartment for a bike ride on his dark Pedelec. According to [police Hesse](https://www.polizei.hessen.de/fahndungen/personalen/vermisste-personalen/broker.jsp?uMen=0f86f936-f352- c413-4330-f43bb838f39b&uCon=77b70659-3680-a891-1dcb-413608d7ec33&uTem=8ed702cd-aff2-3941-cd47-a0a30165474d) Mr Baumgart armed himself with a white and red checked short-sleeved shirt, a dark fleece jacket and dark blue trousers. He has a Central European appearance, is around 1.70 meters tall, has short dark gray hair and a three-day beard. It is thought that he may be in a helpless position or have difficulty orienting himself.
The senior citizen has not yet returned home and police are concerned about his well-being as he has often gone on bike rides throughout the Rhine-Main area in the past. The police crisis team has started the investigation and is now looking for relevant information. Citizens are asked to pass on any information to the Frankfurt Criminal Investigation Department on 069/755 53110 or any other police station.
Context to missing persons cases
Unfortunately, there are always missing people in Germany. The Federal Criminal Police Office has stated that around 9,420 missing person cases will be registered in 2025 and that between 200 and 300 new cases will be added every day. Underage refugees and young people are often particularly affected; their number was around 80,800 in 2024.
However, the chances of resolution are relatively high, as over 80% of cases are resolved within a month. In the case of adults, as in the case of Mr. Baumgart, acute dangers can often play a role, prompting the police to initiate large-scale search measures. It is therefore important that the population remains vigilant and informs the police immediately if they suspect anything.
Another missing person report concerns a woman from Frankfurt-Niederrad who has been missing since August 4th. The last sighting took place in a care facility, and here too the police did not rule out the possibility that the woman was in a helpless situation. Fortunately, the woman has resurfaced since August 9th, encouraging the police to rely on the public's support in Mr. Baumgart's case as well. Information can also be submitted here to the Frankfurt Police Headquarters.
Concern for missing people is an important issue that affects us all. It is therefore crucial to be vigilant and, if in doubt, to act quickly so that as many missing people as possible can return safely to their relatives as quickly as possible.
