20 years of Imma-Mack Realschule: A festival of inclusion and community!
The Imma-Mack Realschule in Eching celebrated its 20th anniversary on June 2, 2025. The celebrations took place in a festive framework in which headmaster Gerd Neubert reminded of the important school history. The junior high school, which opened in September 2005 as the first secondary school in the community, initially began its history in a container system before moving into the new building on Nelkenstrasse a year later. The total cost of the school building was around 20 million euros. The school was named in honor of Imma Mack, an religious sister who bravely smuggled food and medicine into the Dachau concentration camp during the Nazi regime.
Neubert described the Imma-Mack Realschule as young, but experienced because it already teaches the third generation of students. Particularly noteworthy are the success of the school, including the awarding of the school profile inclusion in 2012 and the award as "School without racism, school with courage" in 2015. In addition, the school mentions inclusion as an important principle by combining disabled and non -disabled students under one roof. The managing director of Lebenshilfe, Johannes Reicheneden, praised the lived inclusion in the facility.
ceremony and celebrations
The celebrations were opened by a ceremony, which was moderated by the tenth graders Fanny Gandenberger and Eva Zhelezova. The evening was musically framed by the school choir and a solo appearance by Konstantin Schnurrbach. Student spokesman Paul Rochelmeyer described the Imma-Mack Realschule as a "school with character". Mayor Sebastian Thaler emphasized the importance of the facility as a "accompaniment to life", while parents' advisory board Andrea Dannhauser praised the good cooperation within the school family. A special feature was that the singing ensemble presented humorous Gstanzln, whereby the guests had to sing along to get to the buffet.
In addition, a colorful anniversary evening took place in the auditorium of the junior high school in early May, in which numerous parents and students were present. The program included both musical and sporting performances. The anniversary of the "Spero" charity, which was founded by caretaker Laurian Graef five years ago, was particularly celebrated. Graef emphasized that the association aims to bundle the school's donations and thus give hope to other people who need help.
inclusion as a mission statement
Inclusion is a central topic in the Imma-Mack Realschule, which corresponds to the educational goals of the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabilities. This conventional obligation to ensure equal opportunities in education demands that all people have qualified access to education, regardless of special learning needs or social origin. Germany faces challenges because the discourse on the impact of exclusive school structures and the need for inclusive approaches. According to reports, the educational conditions in Germany are often inadequate, and the gap between different social classes is great, which further increases the demand for an inclusive education.
The challenge to ensure education in heterogeneous groups not only promotes social skills, but could also lead to better degrees. With regard to the future educational structures, the implementation of inclusion not only requires a rethink in school policy, but also the provision of sufficient financial means and a practical training of teachers.
The Imma-Mack Realschule has made an important contribution to social education through its commitment to inclusion and close cooperation within the school family and remains a lighthouse for a future-oriented school policy.
