Alumni from Cottbus celebrate 61 years of friendship with a new chronicle!
Cottbus, Deutschland - On June 3, 2025, an important milestone was celebrated in the history of the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg: the handover of an extensive alumni chronicle, which documents the experiences and the connection of a seminar group, which began in 1963, with her studies in the field of road and bridge construction. The then engineering school for construction and street Cottbus, now part of the BTU, was the starting point for a long friendship and numerous meetings of the graduates.
Fritz-Walter Erler, alumnus from the very beginning, handed over the chronicle to Daniel Ebert, who acts as a speaker for alumni work. The chronicle comprises impressive 800 pages and is handwritten in five volumes. It not only represents a chronicle of the decisions and past experiences made, but also has a significant historical value. This documentation will be available to university and research work in the future to further illuminate the history of the course and the university.
insights into the past
The seminar group, which studied from 1964 to 1967 in today's premises of teaching building 1 and the main building, lived in barracks during their training period. These circumstances led to close friendships and a special attachment among the students, who remained even after the end of their studies. Despite the corona -related break, the alumni meet annually.
The foundation of the engineering school and the tight ties among the students are part of the tradition that shapes today's BTU. The exchange and experiences that the alumni share are documented by the chronicle and show the importance of the university in their personal and professional career.
education system and the role of the university
The importance of the BTU in the life of its students is in the context of the educational system in Germany, which is strongly federal. While the universities offer a variety of academic possibilities, the BTU has a special focus on engineering, as the developments in road and bridge construction show. Education in Germany pursues the goal of promoting prosperity and equal opportunities, although educational success should not depend on social background. These values can also be found in BTU's philosophy, which wants to convey comprehensive education and skills to its graduates.
The development and success of the students who received their training at the BTU can be supported by various study programs. Grants and financial aid such as BAföG enable many students to achieve their academic goals, while the wide range of educational offers allows them to develop their talents and interests.
at a time when the educational landscape is constantly evolving, the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg remains a recognized center for engineering and a source for innovative ideas and perspectives.
