Bärbel Bas announces hard measures against social abuse!

Deutschland - Federal Minister of Labor Bärbel BAS has announced that it increasingly promote the fight against social service abuse in connection with the citizens' benefit. This included a significantly increased sanctioning of people who are able to work but are not ready to work. The organized abuse of social benefits by EU citizens is the focus of their politics. For example, BAS has requested a stronger review of the claims for freedom of movement and explained that, regardless of nationality, sanctions against citizen benefit recipients should be tightened, which do not meet their obligations. This is considered a significant departure from the previous regulations under your predecessor Hubertus Heil, such as the Ostsee-Zeitung reported.

Recently, BAS has also spoken of “mafia structures” for citizens' money recipients. This statement reflects the serious concern about the abuse of social benefits and supports the demand for tightened control. The minister emphasizes that the loyalty to the dates of the job centers in particular must be strengthened. People who make appointments for non -justified reasons should have to expect sanctions immediately in order to increase the pressure, to accept job offers.

changes in sanction policy

The debate about sanction policy is not new. In the course of the civil allowance reform of 2023, the previous regulations were defused under "Hartz IV". This reform completed special regulations for less than 25 year olds and ensured that the means of sanctions that are used when disregarding obligations correspond to the requirements of the Federal Constitutional Court (BVerfG). However, in view of the current economic situation, this regulations are now being considered again, such as the Federal Center for Political Education

The existing legal framework stipulates that the sanctions in levels are imposed if the obligations are not complied with. From 2023, for example, new reduction levels for breaches of duty apply, which can be enough of a reduction of 10 percent for one month to 30 percent for three months. These constant adjustments in the sanction regulations are necessary to find a balance between ensuring a decent life and the enforcement of obligations

social effects of the sanctions

Studies show that sanctions can certainly play a role in promoting employment, but they also bring considerable risks. High sanctions can lead to financial difficulties, debts and psychological stress. It also shows that too strict sanction policy can be counterproductive for labor market integration. A balanced procedure is therefore required that creates incentives to start work without severely restricting the living conditions of those affected. These discussions illustrate the challenges that politics faces to make an effective and fair social system.
