Colorful experiments in Cottbus: KinderUni inspires with colors and chemistry!

Zentralcampus Cottbus, Deutschland - On June 5 and 18, 2025, the Brandenburg Technical University (BTU) invites students of the third to sixth classes to an exciting children's unification. The lecturer Dr. Michael Kleinwächter, a chemist, and Dr. Olaf Gutschker, a physicist, designed by the Unex school laboratory. The events take place in the central lecture hall building, Audimax 2, on the Central Campus Cottbus and in the large lecture hall of the Konrad Zuse-Medien Center on the Senftenberg campus.

The lectures are not only a way for the young participants to get to know the fascinating world of natural sciences, but also offer a practical insight into the formation of colors. Experiments for the analysis of household chemicals and demonstrations of bright liquids are planned. These interactive experiences should arouse children's interest in scientific questions and offer them the opportunity to experience the flair of a university. Registrations are not required for participation.

content and goals of the event

The main goal of the event is to offer formative experiences and experiences that promote interest in natural sciences. This initiative is in the context of similar events, such as the children's university at the Freie Universität Berlin , the primary school children make access to scientific topics. The events take place there in a period of one week, mostly in September or early October, and offer a variety of participatory offers that are tailored to children of the 2nd to 6th grade.

Topics from areas such as biology, chemistry, physics, archeology, history and human medicine are also dealt with at the FU Berlin children's university at FU Berlin. Teachers can register their classes online in advance to secure access. In the event of high demand, the FU Berlin uses an optimization program for the fair distribution of the places.

Kinderuni as an introduction to science

In addition to the BTU and FU Berlin, there is also the Akad Kinderuni , which specifically offers children aged eight to twelve years an insight into the world of science and research. These events enable children to take part in lectures from home or other places. The aim of the Akad Kinderuni is to offer lectures especially for children and thus promote interest in education and research at an early stage.

Overall, the different approaches of the children's uni programs show how important it is to arouse interest in scientific questions early on in children and to convey a positive attitude to the university. The BTU and its colleagues at other institutions rely on creative and inviting formats that not only give the children knowledge, but also stimulate their curiosity.
