Small farmers museum Reitzendorf in front of the: City Council decides against takeover

in the picturesque Reitzendorf, a district of Dresden with around 300 inhabitants, the Kleinbauernmuseum to survive. The open -air museum, which has existed since 1992, attracts around 5,500 visitors annually and specializes in the formation of elementary school students. Unfortunately, due to financial bottlenecks, due to a reduced funding, the museum must now do serious cuts in its project work.

A half -day force was released after the support was reduced to 46,000 euros per year, although, according to the Schönfelder Hochland home association, the museum needs around 350,000 euros annually to maintain the operation. These precarious financial conditions have forced the association to terminate a part -time employee on February 28, 2025. Therefore, educational work for elementary school students, which has been successfully operated for over 30 years, threatens the end. Together with the closure of the museum on Wednesday and Thursday from March 2025, the situation is becoming increasingly serious.

criticism and disappointment on city council decisions

The Heimatverein Schönfelder Hochland e.V. has tried to hand over the small farmer museum to the responsibility of the city for years. This happened in particular against the background that the members of the association are out of date and that there is a lack of young successors. The negotiations for the transmission of the museum for a long time, which, among other things, owe the corona restrictions and health problems of the association's chairman is.

The mayor of Culture, Annekatrin Klepsch, resumed the talks in 2023 and created a draft resolution for the city council, which has so far been rejected. Despite the unanimous recommendation of the Schönfeld-Weißig local council to take over the museum, the city council had concerns and expressed reviews about the high personnel costs that are incurred in Dresden for museum companies. This situation has disappointed the club members who are concerned about the future of the museum.

future prospects and threats to educational work

The small farmers' museum offers a permanent exhibition that shows the life and economy of small farmers until the LPG is formed. It also regularly organizes fixed, open-air cinema events, readings and smaller cultural events. The activities also include essential educational units for primary school classes.

With the financing in mind and the risk of not reaching the annual income, the question arises of the long -term feasibility of the museum work. Mediums are also assigned only quarterly, which leads to an unstable basis of planning. The general meeting of the Heimatverein will promptly discuss the consequences of the latest city council decision. The fate of the small farmer museum is on the brink.

The city of Dresden, contractually obliged to receive the museum, faces the challenge of finding a sustainable solution. The pressure on the city administration is growing, while both the museum and the primary schools concerned are waiting for a decision.
