Laura Froehlich: New impulses for social psychology in Hagen!

Hagen, Deutschland - pd Dr. Laura Froehlich is now taking over the representation of the teaching area of social psychology at the FernUniversität in Hagen. This happens during the term of the term of Prof. Dr. Stefan Stürmer as Rector. Froehlich worked as a postdoc at striker from 2015 to 2021 and thus brings extensive experience in research and teaching. In 2021 she moved to the Catalpa research center and completed her habilitation at the Faculty of Psychology in 2023.

Your commitment and expertise were positively emphasized in the interim assessment of their young group "Stereotype Threat". This group examines how stereotypes influence the success and the social integration of students. Froehlich places a strong focus on continuity in the teaching area as well as support from your team and the faculty.

Innovations in Master's business psychology

As part of her teaching activity, new content for Master Business Psychology was designed. This includes an introduction to psychology for economists: inside and a module to sustainability and intercultural communication. Her research focuses on diversity in educational processes and gender -related inequality.

In particular,

examines how different backgrounds such as origin and socio -economic status influence educational processes in schools and universities. In a DFG-funded project, she analyzes how students write scientific texts in learning groups and what individual backgrounds they bring in.

research on gender equality

The topic of gender -related inequality is not only a personal research interest in Froehlich, but also a central social concern. In Germany, equality of men and women in Article 3 (2) of the Basic Law is anchored, but implementation is still a challenge. According to the Hans Böckler Foundation, women in many areas, especially in management positions, are underrepresented-only 11% of the board positions and 32% of the supervisory board positions are filled with women. The gender pay gap shows that women earn an average of 18% less than men in 2020.

Corona pandemic also contributed to stepping back in equality, especially for mothers, where 19% had to reduce their working hours, compared to only 6% of fathers. These social and economic aspects are also in the gender research by Froehlich and her cooperation partner Prof. Dr. Angela Dorrough takes into account the gender -related topics across borders.

educational inequality and gender dimension

The discussion about equality in education and work is complex. Educational inequalities between the sexes are already evident in school and affect later professional experience. According to an investigation into educational reporting from 2020, the influence of gender on academic achievements and the success of the study remains significant, and the self -awareness of gender also plays a role here.

Froehlich's research approach, in particular the work on stereotypes and their influence on the educational path, is therefore an important contribution to this discourse. Your work could help to reduce structural barriers and to put forward -looking impulses for more gender equality in education and work.
