Lower Saxony under pressure: CDU demands immediate measures against female!

Niedersachsen, Deutschland - In Lower Saxony, a determined action against female is required. The parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Mareike Wulf (CDU), criticizes the hesitant attitude of the red-green state government and in particular the Minister of Justice Kathrin Wahlmann and the Interior Minister Daniela Behrens, both from the SPD. According to Wulf, the demands for a faster change from the Lower Saxony Police Act are necessary to better protect women from violence. "No day can be lost," she emphasizes.

The debate develops against the background of alarming numbers. In 2023, according to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), 938 women and girls were victims of misogynistic violence, 360 of them were killed. These numbers reflect a worrying reality: the female, i.e. killings of women due to their gender, have been increasing for years. In Lower Saxony, nine completed and 14 attempted murders were registered in 2024.

political measures and demands

Wulf refers to the draft law agreed in the coalition agreement for the amendment of the Violence Protection Act and urges a rapid implementation. Wahlmann himself spoken out for tougher punishments in female cases and announced a Federal Council initiative to amend criminal law. She clearly describes the targeted killing of women and girls due to their gender as a murder and demands acute need for action.

The term femicide denotes the killing of a woman due to her gender and emphasizes the structural problems of violence against women. According to an analysis of the Federal Center for Political Education, female is often motivated by hierarchical gender relationships and can be done in both (ex) partnerships and outside of these relationships. Violence against women not only manifests itself physically, but also mentally, economical and sexualized. This multiple dimension of violence leads to steadily increasing numbers and represents a problem for society as a whole.

COMMANITY COMMUNTIONS

A uniform definition of femicine has so far been missing in Germany, as well as precise records of the motifs in the statistics. Trans*women are also affected, but often not represented in crime statistics. All of these factors lead to a complicated situation that raises far -reaching questions about media reporting, legal persecution and prevention of violence against women. The federal anti-discrimination agency has published various guidelines that aim to clarify and protection, while the implementation of the Istanbul Convention is repeatedly in focus.

Awareness of the problem of gender -based violence is growing, but the need for effective measures and legal foundations for the prevention of female and the protection of women in Germany remains one of the central challenges. The demands for immediate action are therefore not only a political necessity, but also a moral responsibility of our society.
