Drama on the water: Canoe drivers capsize in front of Greifswald - alcohol in the game!

On May 29, 2025, five paddlers experienced a terrible accident on the way back from a canoe tour in the Danish Wieck. The group, supported by a motor boat, was flooded with water due to strong weather and capsized. All six people went into the water and drove about 30 minutes until they were saved by the traditional sailor "Hanne Marie". Two of the accidental boat drivers had to be taken to the hospital with injuries.

The water protection police found that a breath alcohol value of 1.7 per thousand was measured by the captains concerned, which led to corresponding measures. The police have already created a sports boat accident report and initiated criminal proceedings against the 39-year-old motor boat driver. The causes of the accident are still being determined. All boats that were involved in the incident were also recovered.
