Blitz hits: residential building in Freiburg is on fire, residents save themselves!

On Sunday evening, June 1, 2025, around 10 p.m., a lightning strike flamed the roof of a residential and commercial building on Basler Strasse. Thanks to the quick action of the two residents, they were able to leave the building in good time before the rescue workers arrived.

The fire brigade had to open parts of the roof to extinguish the fire, which lasted until around 11:30 p.m. The property damage is estimated on alarming 150,000 to 200,000 euros. The two residents were taken to the hospital for medical examination. In addition to the fire brigade, the technical relief organization and two energy suppliers were also used to control the situation.
