In the night of May 24, 2025, there was a fire in a building in Groner Landstrasse in Göttingen around 1:55 a.m. The fire broke out when burning parts from the roof fell through a skylight into a room underneath, which was stuffed with waste. Despite the intensive smoke development, an evacuation of the residents was not necessary.

The alarmed fire brigade was on site with around 70 emergency services to fight the fire. The extinguishing work proved to be complicated and took several hours. The exact causes of the fire are still unclear and are examined by the police.
