Serious accident in Gelsenkirchen: driver trapped in the van!

On Sunday evening, June 1, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred on Steeler Strasse in Gelsenkirchen-Rotthausen. The fire brigade was alerted at 8:53 p.m. after an automatic emergency function of a vehicle occupant was activated. The alarming situation was confirmed on site: the driver was trapped in the vehicle, while the passenger was able to free himself independently.

The passenger suffered minor injuries and was brought to the Gelsenkirchen-Zückendorf Marienhospital for further treatment. To save the driver, the fire brigade opened the van to the side. The driver received immediate medical care and was then transported to the Kliniken Gelsenkirchen-Buer Kliniken under emergency medical accompaniment. The fire brigade was deployed with 39 emergency services and handed over the accident site according to the rescue measures of the police, which has now started the investigation into the cause of the accident.
