Gas smell in apartment building: fire brigade saves residents in weather!

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, the fire brigade workers Altwetter, Volmarstein and Esborn were called for a smell of gas in an apartment building on Harkortstrasse at 12:04 p.m. A concerned resident had found a gas -like smell in his bathroom, whereupon he opened the windows and left the building. When it arrived, the fire brigade evacuated the remaining residents and explored the apartment with special measuring devices, but could not find any increased values. The measurements in the basement area also showed no abnormalities.

The supply company AVU also confirmed negative measurements in the house. In consultation with the housing company, an installer was commissioned to thoroughly check the entire gas system. After about 90 minutes, the fire brigade ended and the situation was handed over to the installer. The board of the Wetter (Ruhr) residential cooperative (Ruhr), which provided the emergency services and evacuated residents with cool drinks, received special recognition.
