Hanover in turmoil: hundreds of demonstration against social division

Hannover, Deutschland - Several hundred people demonstrated in Hanover on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The police were deployed with a large contingent to accompany the four registered meetings and various spontaneous protests. The main focus was on an elevator under the motto "Connection with the division of society", which started around 1:00 p.m. from the Göttingen Seven Seven Sk. A total of up to 170 participants took part, while around 100 counter -demonstrators gathered in the same place, which was classified by the police as a separate meeting.

The situation remained tense: the police had to intervene several times to push back protesters so that the demonstration train could continue its route. In the meantime, parked vehicles were damaged by unknown perpetrators, which is now part of the investigation. There was also an injured participant and an injured police officer. The police have currently initiated 30 criminal proceedings in connection with the meetings. Thanks to a strong police presence, a greater argument between the different groups could be prevented.
