In a spectacular commitment, the customs investigation office Essen and the Cologne public prosecutor uncovered an illegal major laboratory for synthetic drugs in the Kerpen district. Since April 2025, the investigation against a suspected group that is accused of making narcotics on a large scale have been unauthorized.

The investigators discovered enormous amounts of synthetic drugs in an old estate. A total of 24 people were arrested, while the responsible authorities cannot initially have any further details on the current investigation. The fight against drug crime in the region apparently shows initial successes.
