International conference in Teltow: Ekkel trick fraud in sight!

From June 11th to 13th, employees of public prosecutors and police meet 16 federal states as well as from Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and Serbia. The international conference organized by the State Criminal Police Office Berlin aims to discuss effective strategies to combat grandchildren. This is part of the EU-funded ISF Lumen project, which focuses on combating cross-border property crime.

The grandchildren, in which fraudsters pretend to be relatives to move older people to surrender money or valuables, increasingly relies on so-called "traffic accident shock calls". The perpetrators report supposed traffic accidents in which relatives were seriously injured, trying to force immediate payments. A call center was recently smashed in Herne in North Rhine-Westphalia, and several suspects were arrested. Investigators were able to prevent numerous fraud cases to be of Polish citizens.
