Century flood in Bavaria: THW fought heroically against the flood
A year after the devastating flood in Bavaria, the Technical Aid Agency (THW) is reminiscent of its heroic commitment. In May 2022, heavy rain led to violent floods in the government districts of Swabia, Upper and Lower Bavaria, where the disaster was proclaimed in several counties. The THW forces worked around the clock and pumped millions of liters of water to relieve the affected areas. With high -performance pumps that can promote up to 25,000 liters per minute, they demonstrated how essential modern technology is in disaster protection.
In order to get an overview of the flood damage, the THW special units used drones, while preventive clearing groups freed roads of mud and rubble. Thanks to separate systems, over 3.5 million liters of oil-water mixture could be filtered, which significantly reduced special waste. Dr. Fritz Helge Voß, state representative of THW Bayern, praised the extraordinary commitment of the volunteers and emphasized the importance of operational readiness. The THW remains ready to help quickly in disaster.
