In the afternoon of May 28, 2025, there was a threatening incident in the old port of Hooksiel: a sunken sailing yacht let oil -containing operating materials escape into the water! To prevent further spread, an oil barrier was built by the Hooksiel volunteer fire brigade around the boat.

The Wilhelmshaven water protection police has already initiated criminal proceedings for water pollution. Further measures are taken by the port authority and the lower water authority of the Friesland district to control the situation. A serious environmental risk that must be treated immediately!
