Environmental crime in North Rhine-Westphalia: Three men charged with PFAS fraud
Three men aged 35, 46 and 67 have to answer to the lay judge in Krefeld after the central office for the persecution of environmental crime in NRW charges for serious environmental crimes and commercial fraud. The 67-year-old and his 35-year-old son are suspected of receiving, stored and treating illegal PFAS-containing extinguishing agents from foam extinguishers. They received support from a 46-year-old employee who is also suspected of renting a barn in Viersen in order to also illegally store dangerous chemicals there.
In the course of search measures in 2024, the authorities discovered around 25 tons (foam) fire extinguisher and 40 tons of pfas-loaded extinguishing agents in the barn. These so -called eternal drives are a significant danger to the environment and health, since they are difficult to dismantle and can be transferred to humans and animals via different paths. The accused are faced with a variety of charges because of these serious allegations, including because of water contamination and illegal handling of waste.Details | |
