Violations in road traffic: Mainz controls cyclists and e-scooters!
On Friday, the Mainz police carried out a large-scale bicycle control together with the Ordnungsamt, as part of the Roadpol control week "Zweiräder". The campaign aimed to increase traffic safety and uncover violations of the rules of cyclists and e-scooter users. A total of 39 violations were found in six selected locations in Mainz, including 8 red light violations, 7 drive against the prescribed direction and a cell phone violation. Five cyclists also drove at an unadjusted speed, while an e-scooter user violated the compulsory insurance law.
In the pedestrian zone, 13 violations were found for useful use, including serious cases of converted e-bikes that were in operation without a driving license and insurance. Numerous violations were also registered in other areas, such as in Augustinerstrasse, where 17 cyclists drove the pedestrian zone unauthorized. The measure found positive response from the passers -by, and a constructive exchange between the controllers and the road users was conducted. The authorities emphasize that such controls also take place regularly beyond the Roadpol weeks to increase traffic safety.
