Brandenburg voters are dissatisfied: AfD is clearly overtaking the SPD!
Today's BrandenburgTrend by infratest dimap, broadcast on rbb24, shows a threatening decline in support for the coalition of SPD and BSW. A full 54 percent of those surveyed are dissatisfied with the state government, while only 40 percent express satisfaction. This is particularly alarming in view of the upcoming elections, as the AfD has experienced a huge upswing and is now at a high of 32 percent. This means an increase of 2 percentage points compared to the last survey in December 2024. The SPD, on the other hand, falls drastically to 23 percent, losing 5 points, while the BSW slips to 9 percent, corresponding to a loss of 3 points.
The CDU managed to gain slightly and reached 14 percent, but it also remained far from the required majority. What is surprising is the growth of the Left, which has doubled its share of the vote to 9 percent. For the Greens, the status quo remains at a stable 5 percent. As far as coalition possibilities are concerned, things look bleak: a three-party coalition against the AfD seems impossible because there are no votes from parties like the CDU or BSW. Current considerations make it clear that none of the current coalitions, be it a Kenya alliance or a red-red-green cooperation, could achieve a majority if the AfD is left out, as Tagesspiegel reports.
Political mood
The dissatisfaction with the state government is palpable and raises questions about political stability. A crucial problem appears to be satisfaction with Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD), which has fallen to its lowest level since 2013. Only 50 percent of Brandenburg residents are satisfied with his work. This is also reflected in the different sympathy values: While 83 percent of SPD supporters are satisfied, the satisfaction level for BSW supporters is only 47 percent and for AfD supporters it is only 22 percent.
According to the results of the survey, which was carried out between June 19 and 23 and surveyed 1,185 eligible voters, 68 percent of respondents are dissatisfied with the planned job creation in the new state budget, as police positions are primarily being created while the number of teachers is expected to stagnate. This wrong political decision is viewed critically by the population.
Meanwhile, the topic of a possible ban on the AfD is being hotly debated. At least 58 percent of those surveyed consider such a procedure to be inappropriate. However, that does not mean that there is no support for it: 84 percent of the Greens are in favor of it, 73 percent of the Left and even 59 percent of SPD supporters see a ban as realistic. However, the majority of CDU supporters (58 percent) and BSW voters (69 percent) clearly reject the procedure. 97 percent of AfD supporters are against such a procedure.
Outlook and possible coalitions
A look at possible government coalitions shows that the current SPD/BSW coalition is already on the brink and no longer has a majority. The need for sound governance is becoming increasingly compelling as the situation remains fluid. Most parties now have to consider how they should design their strategies in order to possibly be able to deal with the AfD.
The discussion about suitable alliances remains exciting, especially in view of the fact that even theoretical coalitions make it clear that many parties cannot work together in the current constellation.
Even if the survey results can still change, the current trend shows that the mood in the country is tense and uncertain. The state elections will certainly be sensational - there is something going on!
