40 years of friendship: Dickinson College President in Bremen as a guest!
Bremen, Deutschland - The 40-year partnership between the University of Bremen and Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, was celebrated on June 5, 2025 with a special visit to College President John E. Jones III. During the "Dickinson College Public Lecture" in Bremer Schütting, Jones paid tribute to the historical connection between the two institutions. The event was organized on the occasion of this anniversary by the University of Bremen, the Dickinson Bremen Program, the Carl Schurz German-American Club and the Hamburg American Center.
In his greetings, Jason Chue, the Consul General at the US General Consulate in Hamburg, and Professor Jutta Günther, the Rector of the University of Bremen, emphasized the importance of this long-term cooperation. Jones took the opportunity to discuss with Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte, members of the rectorate, scientists from the university and alumni of the exchange program.long -term exchange relationships
In the past four decades, several hundred students have spent one to two semesters abroad at both universities. These exchange relationships have not only expanded the international horizon of the students, but also enabled numerous cooperation in research and teaching between the two institutions. In addition, Dickinson College is one of the oldest and most respected private colleges in the USA and was founded in 1783. Dr. Benjamin Rush, a founding father in the United States, is one of the founders of the college.
The Dickinson College attaches particular importance to global orientation and sustainability as well as the close linking of teaching and research. Among the guests of honor on this special day there was also a prominent graduate of the college: James Buchanan, former President of the USA.
International university cooperations
The celebrations in Bremen are part of a larger trend in which German universities are increasingly involved in international university cooperations. The aim of these initiatives is to set up courses, faculties and universities abroad. As reported on international university cooperations.de , transnational education (TNB) plays an increasingly important role in the internationalization strategies of universities.
In 2013, the general meeting of the University Rectors' Conference (HRK) passed a code for German university projects abroad. This code determines qualitative minimum requirements - both academic and ethical - for German university projects abroad. Both German universities and their foreign partners must follow these guidelines. Universities that voluntarily join the code positions themselves as a quality -conscious and intercultural sensitive partner in the global educational competition.
