60 years of Ruhr University: Celebrate with us in the heart of Bochum!

Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Deutschland - The Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, an occasion that is recognized with numerous celebrations. On June 18, 2025, a large state market begins at 2 p.m. in the north forum of the RUB, which is organized by the student body. Students, initiatives and university policy lists will take part in share information on projects and offering hands -on activities. The event is part of the motto "RUB 60 - Built to Change Since 1965", which reflects the eventful history and development of the university. The RUB has shaped the change in the Ruhr area from a mining region into a modern science region, and one of the largest construction projects in Europe shaped its campus.

To celebrate the anniversary, the sustainability office will open a new room in the former Sparda-Bank. Visitors can turn a wheel of fortune with prices and take part in a mini scavenger hunt. Music from the DJs Tobishka and Infinityl∞p is played in front of the Repair Café, while an offer of currywurst, free drinks and slush ice is located in the information and drink scale. An official opening of the celebrations takes place at 4 p.m. with the rector and the Chancellor, accompanied by sausage barbecues and beer bars.

The day is crowned with a concert in the Audimax from 7:30 p.m., in which the pop choir under the motto "We pull peace!" appear. In addition, the exhibition "RUB 60 - Built to Change Since 1965" is opened in the foyer of the university administration, which presents the highlights from 60 years of university history. A champagne reception for invited guests for the opening of the exhibition takes place at 6 p.m. before the exhibition is open to everyone afterwards and remains open until the end of the year.

The rub was founded in 1965 and has since produced more initial academics since then than any other German university. The Rector, Prof. Dr. Dr. Martin Paul, emphasizes the importance of excellent research, innovative teaching and a strong community. The rub therefore remains firmly rooted locally, but at the same time globally networked in order to meet the challenges of a changing society.

Review of an eventful history

The foundation of the RUB was part of a future vision for the Ruhr area and produced the so -called "rubber boot generation" of young scientists. This should create a new type of university. Historically, German university history, which has its roots in the Middle Ages, has gone through different phases in recent decades. Starting from the first universities in late 14th and early 15th centuries to the foundation of the University of Berlin in 1810, which was decisive for the German University System, a continuous change is shown.

The RUB, as one of the leading universities in Germany, contributes actively to the transformation of the region with its innovative research focuses and sustainable projects. New companies and industries have arisen through their initiatives, which has significantly influenced not only the academic landscape, but also the economic development of the region.

In the anniversary year 2025, numerous events will take place that address both nostalgic reviews and innovative future visions. The Ruhr University Bochum remains true to its guiding principle "Built to Change" and thus shows that it will continue to play a central role in the German university landscape.
