Cooking bid for drinking water in Steinbach: bacterial alarm in Lohr!

In the district of Main-Spessart, a male bid for the Steinbach district in Lohr has been issued due to the discovery of enterococci in the drinking water network. The district's health department took this measure today, June 5, 2025. Enterococci are bacteria that typically occur in the intestine of humans and animals and can become harmful to health when they get into drinking water. Stadtwerke Lohr have already started a chlorine infection of the water to improve quality.

Booking bids are usually pronounced when drinking water is contaminated with pathogens or pollutants. The health department has announced that the drinking water in Steinbach is only harmless after boiling. Citizens should bring the water to the boil once in the past and then let it cool at least ten minutes before consuming it.

on the measures

The boiling of the water is not only necessary for direct consumption, but also affects the preparation of food, the production of ice cubes, washing fruit and vegetables and brushing your teeth. In addition, open wounds should be cleaned with boiled water, and particularly sensitive pets may only be supplied with it. However, there are no restrictions on the use of dishwasher spears, washing machines, showers and toilet rinses. The use of mineral water is recommended for the preparation of infant food.

This situation is not unique. Another bid was issued on October 25, 2024 on Marktheidenfelder Strasse in Karbach when a water pipe break occurred within a construction site. About ten households were affected, and here too it was true that the tap water should only be boiled over until the microbiological results are available.

The dangers and monitoring of drinking water

The monitoring of the drinking water quality takes place according to strict microbiological-regulatory requirements, which are set in the Infection Protection Act (IFSG) and the Trinkwasser Ordinance (TrinkwV). Drinking water may not contain pathogens in health -questioning concentrations. The known pathogens also include salmonella, shigelles and EHEC. These pathogens get into the aquatic environment from human or animal faeces.

Regular tests on Escherichia coli and enterococci are part of the routine monitoring of the water. A negative result in a water sample indicates that there are no potentially dangerous microorganisms in questionable concentrations. The Federal Environment Agency monitors these processes and ensures the development of criteria and standards for drinking water examination.

The current chef bids in Steinbach and Marktheidenfelder Straße are therefore a necessary step to protect the health of the citizens. Information about the end of the bids is provided via local media, the homepage of the district and the respective municipal administrations.
