Acceptance for transgender in the USA: an alarming survey!
USA - A current survey by PEW Research Center has given revealing insights into the experiences of LGBTQ-Erwaxen in the United States. The survey shows significant differences in social acceptance between different groups within the LGBTQ community. While around 60% of the LGBTQ-Erwaxes believe that gays and lesbian individuals are accepted in the United States, only around 10% feel a similar acceptance for non-binaries and transgender people.
This survey, carried out in January 2025, was implemented after the election of US President Donald Trump and before taking office. From the beginning, Trump had taken measures that questioned the rights of transgender people, including the determination that the recognition of gender should be based on the "biological truth" during conception. In addition, transgender women were excluded from participation in female sports competitions.
social acceptance and challenges
Around half of the LGBTQ-Echnenes in the USA states that there is “not much” or no acceptance for transgender people. This is also confirmed in the survey of the Associated Press-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research, where about half of the US-growing people agree to Trump's handling of transgender topics. Regardless of these challenges, many LGBTQ people report on increased acceptance in friends and family.
The majority of LGBTQ people state that they are accepted by friends, and about 50% of gays and lesbian people feel accepted by their parents, in contrast to only one third of the transgender people. These differences are significant because only 10% of transgender people report to be accepted by their extended family.
A look at the different acceptance worldwide
In an international context, acceptance for LGBTQIA+rights is very different. In Germany, 73% of the population support the protection against discrimination against lesbian, gays and bisexual people. If you have any questions about legal recognition of same -sex marriages, it is 71% to support them, and 73% support the same adoption rights for homosexual couples.
Nevertheless, a survey by IPSOS shows that there is a falling support for open ways of life, which exacerbates the situation for LGBTQIA+personnel. In Germany, the acceptance values for LGBTQIA+-friendly brands and athletes have improved slightly, with 43% and 49% approval, while the numbers worldwide decrease.
The PEW Research survey has also found that 73% of gay or lesbian adults as well as 68% of transgender adults have experienced insulting statements or jokes based on their identity in the past. A terrifying 70% of transgender adults stated that they were afraid of their personal security in a certain period of time
The survey enables a comprehensive overview of the challenges and the varied degree of acceptance that LGBTQ person is facing the United States. While progress has been made, there is still considerable need for action to ensure equality and acceptance for all members of this community.
In the summary, the analysis shows a complex image: Despite positive developments in some areas, prejudices and discrimination are still omnipresent, not only in the USA, but worldwide. The situation demands everyone who is committed to equality.
