Shock for patients: 17 medical practices in Friedrichshafen before bankruptcy!

Friedrichshafen, Deutschland - Medical care in the Lake Constance district faces a drastic change, since the medical care centers (MVZ) in Friedrichshafen and Tettnang of the Friedrichshafen Clinic are insolvent. The Schwäbische Zeitung According to the Medicine Campus Bodensee (MCB), application for both GmbH. Steffen Beck was appointed as a provisional insolvency administrator by the Ravensburg district court. Despite this difficult situation, the operation of the medical practices in Friedrichshafen, Tettnang and Kressbronn remains without restriction, and all agreed appointments are valid.

The bankruptcy brings uncertainties. It is unclear how long the bankruptcy proceedings will take. The main goal is to check the income and open payments in order to decide whether the MVZ must be continued or possibly closed. A total of 17 practices are affected by this bankruptcy, including 13 in Friedrichshafen and 4 in Tettnang. There are many practices in Friedrichshafen in the medical center on Röntgenstraße and in the main building of the clinic, while three practices are housed in the hospital in Emil-Münch-Strasse in Tettnang.

economic situation of the MVZ

The economic problems of the MVZ are not new. The MCB has been suffering from considerable financial difficulties since 2021. In 2021, the losses in Friedrichshafen amounted to almost 200,000 euros, while in 2022 they rose to almost 600,000 euros. In the MVZ Tettnang, the loss rose from 35,000 euros to 160,000 euros in the same period. So far, the financial gap has been compensated for by grants from the city of Friedrichshafen, which now has to ask whether it can continue to provide support. No balance sheets were published for 2023 and 2024, but increasing losses can be expected.

Anthea Mayer, who has been managing director of the MCB since May 2024, has filed for bankruptcy to enable a clear economic analysis of outpatient facilities and ensure an orderly procedure. The approximately 90 employees affected were informed on Friday. In contrast to the current developments, the strategy of the MCB to strengthen outpatient care structures is on the brink, especially with regard to the forecast losses of 20.5 million euros for 2023 and around 23 million euros for 2024, as from the Südkurier can be emphasized.

effects on health care

The upcoming bankruptcy has far -reaching effects on health care in Lake Constance. If the MVZ is not continued, this could significantly weaken the range of outpatient medical services. In addition to gynecologist practices, MVZ also offer surgery, neurology, orthopedics, pediatric medicine and pain therapy. An analysis of the industry that is treated in a Working Paper shows the increasing cost pressure and the tense financial situation of these medical facilities.

The Mayor of Friedrichshafen has already asked for talks with the district to discuss a potential participation. In particular, the uncertainties about the future financing of the MVZ poses great challenges for both the city and the employees. The situation remains tense and as long as no clear solutions are found, the stability of medical care in the Lake Constance group is at risk.
