Bishop has new Sankt Nikolaus chapel in Missen
Missen-Wilhams, Deutschland - On June 7, 2025, Bishop Bertram Johannes Meier ceremoniously inaugurated the newly built Sankt-Nikolaus chapel in Missen-Berg. The ceremony took place after several rainy days in a bright blue sky and attracted around 100 worshipers. The bishop received support from Domvikar Pastor Ulrich Müller and Father Sojesh Perukilakkattu, the head of the Stein parish community.
The octagonal chapel, which is under the protection of the St. Nicholas of Myra, measures about 6 x 5 meters and is an impressive solid wood construction. The construction was initiated two years ago by the Nikolausverein and realized by the timber construction department of the state vocational school Immenstadt. The shell was built last year, and the support association took over the interior design. Franz Horn, the initiator and founder of the Sankt Nikolaus Brotherhood, played a crucial role in the realization of the project.
a beneficial moment
The inauguration began with festive sounds of firecrackers and alphorn music, while the chapel bell sounded for the first time during the song "Great God, we praise you". In his sermon, Bishop Meier emphasized that he did not come as Santa Claus, but to bless the chapel and the bell. He spoke about the three terms, go and kneel in the context of the Christian faith. If the connection to God is symbolized, the stony path of faith went, and knees stood for pausing and humility in prayer.
"The bell was blessed as a sign in good and difficult times," added the bishop during the speech. The celebrations framed the celebrations Missen-Wilham's music band, which offered a festive framework. Mayor Martina Wilhelm and Franz Horn also thanked the supporters of the chapel building and emphasized the importance of this project.
a place of encounter
The Sankt Nikolaus chapel, which was officially opened in early May, is to become a place of encounter and faith for the municipality of Missen-Willham. The generous view over the valley to the Allgäu mountains underlines the special location and the character of this new spiritual site.
With the inauguration of the Nikolauskapelle, an important chapter is opened in the history of the community. The chapel stands not only for faith, but also for the voluntary commitment and the community behind this project. Bishop Meier blessed Ambo and altar, and in the subsequent pontifical fair the chapel was officially entrusted to the community. The association hopes that this place will attract and discourage many people to deepen their faith.
