Lawn chaos in Munich: DFB team ready for National League cracker!

München, Deutschland - national coach Julian Nagelsmann completed the final training of the national soccer team in Herzogenaurach with the complete squad. The DFB selection is well prepared for the upcoming semi-finals of the Nations League against Portugal, which will take place on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. in the Allianz Arena. The training took place on the well -kept lawn in the team quarters, which is a positive sign for the team.

However, there is a big problem in the room: the lawn in the Allianz Arena has to be partially renewed. After the Champions League final, which Paris Saint-Germain won against Inter Milan 5-0, around 2000 PSG fans stormed the field, damaged a goal and the goal net and tore parts of the lawn. This creates large holes in the penalty area, which must now be repaired. Jürgen Muth, Managing Director of Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH, confirmed that there was no danger to carry out the game.

lawn repair and technology

The Greenkeepers are now facing a major challenge to make the lawn fit for the game in good time. Muth explained that the damaged areas were relocated and the arena crew reacted quickly to exchange the lawns. Thanks to the hybrid roller-razor technology installed in the summer of 2024, the lawn was quickly made ready for playing again, which makes the necessary work much easier.

The responsible persons of the Allianz Arena and the security forces had to intervene at the Oktoberfest weekend, because during the base storm, a total of around 100 emergency services were on site to restore order and bring the fans back to the north grandstand. Paris Saint-Germain has asked his fans to celebrate the victory with "pride, respect and friendliness" in order to avoid such incidents in the future.

Changes in the DFB starting eleven

For the decisive game on Wednesday, personnel changes are also planned in the DFB starting eleven. Nagelsmann will change the line-up compared to 3: 3 against Italy in the quarter-final second leg in at least six positions, which is particularly due to injuries. The return of Marc-André Ter Stegen, who will be in goal for the first time since September 2024 after a long knee injury.

Another talent that could possibly be used is Nick Woltemade, the striker of VfB Stuttgart, who could give his international debut. Captain Joshua Kimmich also stands before his 100th international. The entire team is confident about moving into the Nations League final, which will take place on June 8th in the same arena.

For everyone involved, it remains to be hoped that the lawn in the Allianz Arena will withstand the requirements of the game, so that the DFB team can compete in top form regardless of the current challenges.
