Berlin starts hot help: protection for homeless people in the summer heat!

Taborstraße 17, 10997 Berlin, Deutschland - On June 1, 2025, Berlin officially starts Hitzhilfe , punctually at the beginning of the meteorological start. The heating aid has been a permanent program in Berlin for years and complements the cold aid in winter. The state provides around 300,000 euros for this. The initiative is organized in cooperation with social providers and church institutions and offers shelter in different parts of the city.

Berliner Stadtmission also supports the initiative with a HitzeBus that is on Wednesday to Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The heating team distributes sunscreen, simple meals and ensures that homeless people are brought into medical facilities if necessary. The population is also called up to offer help, for example by having talks or providing water.

The various offers and the heating aid are important steps to meet the needs of homeless people in the hot season and to give them a piece of quality of life. The Berlin society is required to make its contribution to supporting those in need and to draw attention to their situation.
