FC Bayern Munich: 60 years ago with 8-0 to the Bundesliga!

Berlin, Deutschland - Today, FC Bayern Munich looks back on a special day in its history: On June 26, 1965, the club rose after two years of hard work in the regional league South. With a brilliant 8-0 win against Tennis Borussia Berlin in the historic Olympic Stadium of Berlin, the team secured the longed-for place in the Bundesliga. This historical encounter attracted around 15,000 spectators who were largely dressed in red and white and supported their team loudly.

Bayern only needed a tie to create the climb, but the team around coach Zlatko "Tschik" Čajkovski had other plans. With an impressive performance, led by Rainer Ohlhauser, who scored four goals, and Gerd Müller, who contributed another goal, left no doubt about the victory. Already in the 1964/65 season, Ohlhauser, with 42 goals in 36 games, made aware of himself and thus became a top scorer of the Regionalliga Süd. He started his career at the 1st FC Dilsberg and developed through stations at SV Sandhausen to Bayern, where he took the step into professional football in 1961.

The long way to the Bundesliga

The way to the climb was anything but easy. The DFB had refused to accept the Bayern in 1963, which those responsible for the association did not want to accept. Despite an extensive complaint that they submitted to the DFB, the decision remained unchanged. Bayern found the challenge of building a new, strong team in the Regionalliga Süd, which made them impressively with an impressive record of 55 points and a goal difference of 146: 32

Bayern's promotion round in 1965 began with a 2-0 home win against the same team that should now be doomed. After a narrow defeat in Saarbrücken, the way to great success was paved when they faced Tennis Borussia Berlin again on the last match day and finally won. After the final whistle, the entire team celebrated euphorically with the fans on the pitch, and the return to Munich became an unforgettable event by thousands of followers at the airport.

the fulfillment of a dream

President Wilhelm Neudecker announced that the team would plan a celebration with a march around the Tegernsee on July 10, 1965 in order to celebrate the promotion. Rainer Ohlhauser was not only very popular with the fans, but also left his tracks in terms of sport. In another four years at Bavaria, he played 160 Bundesliga games and scored 64 goals before moving to the Grasshopper Club Zurich in 1970.

The promotion history of FC Bayern Munich is more than just a chapter in the club's history; It stands for the tireless struggle for recognition and performance. This culminated an era, which led FC Bayern on a chance of success that continues to this day. A day to celebrate and remember that the fans will tell for a long time.
