Outdoor pool chaos in Kreuzberg: queues and pure desperation!

Summertime is outdoor pool time - many people in Cologne noticed this last weekend when the sun beat down on the asphalt and the outdoor pools were overflowing. In particular, the situation at the summer pool in Berlin-Kreuzberg caused a lot of discussion. A report from Berlin Live describes the chaotic situation at the entrance to the outdoor pool, which pushed even the most patient bathers to their limits.

On Saturday, June 14, people lined up in long lines outside the mixer. The warm summer heat attracted many people, but the crowds bothered even experienced outdoor pool visitors. Entry delays of over half an hour and the lack of clear instructions from security forces added to the chaos. A particularly exciting moment was when a little boy lost his parents and entry controls were stopped at short notice. Discussions about missing IDs and the lack of bag checks did not make the situation any better.

Waiting for fries and tickets

But the chaos continued at the kiosk. Here the waiting time for food was an impressive hour and 40 minutes. Especially in the heat wave, the red and white fries (4 euros) seemed to be an absolute must for many people. Some visitors plan their next visit to the outdoor pool without the additional snack in order to avoid the long waiting times. The question arises as to whether the outdoor pool management didn't anticipate the number of visitors or simply didn't get the hang of it.

A relaxed solution could be to book tickets online, which is up to 20 percent cheaper. This is reported by the Berlin pools, which have also clearly defined the prices for outdoor pool visits. At the summer pools, the price for a day ticket in category 1 is 7 euros (reduced 4.20 euros). Category 2 costs 6.50 euros (reduced 3.80 euros) and for category 3 you can expect 6 euros (reduced 3.50 euros) on Berliner Bäder.

A look into the future

Vouchers of up to 100 euros are also available at the cash registers of the open pools, which could be worthwhile for future visits. One wonders how the outdoor pools will react to the rush in the coming hotter weeks in order to avoid experiences like the one in the Kreuzberg summer pool.

Outdoor swimming pools are an integral part of German summer time and the nicer the weather, the more people flock to them. The anticipation of relaxation and fun on the water is unbroken - albeit sometimes with the challenge of fighting your way through the crowds and queues.
