Hesse celebrates diversity: Over 2000 guests at the summer festival in Berlin!
On July 9, 2025, Hesse held a lively celebration in the Hessian state representation in Berlin. Over 2,000 guests, including numerous political personalities, came together to celebrate the diversity and culinary specialties of Hesse. Prime Minister Boris Rhein opened the festival with a speech in which he emphasized the various facets of the federal state and placed the focus on cohesion. Prominent guests such as Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and Bundestag President Julia Klöckner were also present, which underlined the relevance of the event.
Hesse has been inviting people to the traditional summer festival in Berlin for almost 25 years, a regularity that was interrupted by the Corona break. The Hessian state representation, which was opened in 2001, fulfills an important role as a mouthpiece for Hessian interests in federal politics. At the top is the new Minister for Federal and European Affairs, Manfred Pentz (CDU).
Culinary delicacies and business presentation
The summer festival was not only a social gathering, but also a platform for around 80 Hessian companies and institutions that presented themselves and their products. Visitors were able to enjoy various Hessian specialties, including the Hessian “Kebab” with sauerkraut, Handkäs’ and Ahlewurst. The well-known Äppelwoi was of course also represented. With this diverse offering, guests were able to enjoy the Hessian lifestyle.
In addition to the culinary aspect, the event also aimed to promote networking. Politicians from Hesse and Berlin, traditional craftsmen and representatives of large companies were there to explore new perspectives together. The Hessian vineyard planted in the state representation was particularly inviting with around 200 vines, which is used for the annual harvest and the production of a “Rotling” - a popular gift that was very popular with the guests.
A celebration of diversity
With the motto of this year's festival, Hesse focused on cooperation and the attitude to life, which is viewed as a success factor. “Hesse is well positioned in the federal capital,” emphasized State Minister Manfred Pentz in his speech. The festival also offered a brief overview of the diverse Hessian offerings, including green sauce and specialties from the Schlitzer distillery.
Overall, the Hessenfest was a successful mix of tradition, networking and culinary enjoyment, which made it clear how important such events are for strengthening Hessian identity in the capital. The guests' great interest in the diversity of the state shows that Hesse plays an important role in Germany's political and cultural landscape. Whether with a glass of Äppelwoi in their hand or enjoying delicious Hessian dishes – the festival visitors made the most of this friendly gathering.
