Heat wave in Berlin: temperatures over 30 degrees and danger of forest fires!
Summer will bring us a sweaty heatwave in the coming days. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), temperatures in Berlin and Brandenburg will rise to between 31 and 34 degrees on Wednesday. The official heat warning applies from morning to evening, so everyone outside can be prepared for some pretty hot fun. A cooling down to 19 to 13 degrees has been announced on Thursday night, but that will only be a small recovery.
On Thursday the maximum temperatures will reach a sensational 33 to 36 degrees. The weather remains almost cloudless, and it will only be a little cooler on Friday night with lows of 21 to 16 degrees. On Friday itself, the mercury can even rise to 37 degrees. But it's not just the heat that bothers us; Rising temperatures and drought increase the risk of forest fires, and almost all of Brandenburg is affected. The Ministry of the Environment's forest fire monitor warns of a high level of danger.
Danger of forest fires in the region
In addition to the heat wave, Baden-Württemberg has also attracted attention. Similar high temperatures of over 30 degrees are expected here, and the DWD is also urgently warning of an increasing risk of forest fires. On Wednesday and Thursday the forest fire danger will even rise to level 4, the second highest level. Shady places like those at Breitenauer See are now in demand, while many barbecue areas and fireplaces in Mannheim have already been closed due to the high fire risk. According to the Forest Act, the ban on smoking in forests from March to October applies without restriction.
In many parts of Germany, especially at higher altitudes, thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. The grassland fire index reaches the second highest level in many regions. There is therefore not only an appeal to citizens to be careful, but also signals that the heat is particularly stressful for old people and those in need of care.
A look beyond the borders
While we are struggling with the heat here, southern Europe is experiencing an even more dramatic situation. In countries such as Spain and Portugal, new heat records of up to 46.6 degrees were measured. More than 50,000 people have been evacuated due to forest and bush fires in Turkey, where firefighters are desperately battling the flames. In France, 84 of 95 departments are under a heat warning and many facilities, including around 200 schools, have had to close. The extreme weather conditions are causing alarming situations across Europe that cannot be ignored.
So we should not only use the coming days as an opportunity to enjoy the sun to the fullest, but above all we should also exercise caution. A good hand for your own health and nature is now the order of the day. Stay protected and pay attention to the current weather warnings!
