Heat wave and rain: Berlin expects capricious weather in July!

Summer is currently showing its warm side in Berlin and Brandenburg, but the weather has also shown its restless tendencies in recent weeks with violent storms and dangerous heat. This Sunday, July 6, 2025, meteorologists expect temperatures between 29 and 30 degrees, which will give us a really hot day. As the sun and clouds alternate, a shower could drop by in some regions, such as Berlin Live reported.

Yesterday, on Saturday, the temperatures climbed to around 28 degrees. This makes people want to enjoy the outdoor spaces and soak up the sun. But even if the summer days are beckoning, we are facing a change in the weather: a significant drop in temperature to around 22 degrees is expected as early as Monday, July 7th, accompanied by rain, especially in the evening. This rainfall is urgently needed to support the emergency services in the Gohrischheide fire area and to combat the ongoing drought in the region.

Rain urgently needed

According to the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research's drought monitor, many soils in the region are suffering from drought stress. Also the reports of German Weather Service show that despite the storms last week, overall there was too little precipitation. The soil cannot survive the hot days without sufficient water, making the situation critical for many plants.

Today's day therefore begins rather gloomy from a meteorological point of view. In the afternoon hours, individual thunderstorms can even arise in northern Brandenburg, with gusts of wind that could pick up the pace. From Monday, local thunderstorms with gusts of between 65 and 80 km/h are likely and heavy rain could bring up to 20 liters per square meter.

Climate change and its consequences

For many, climate change has a direct impact on everyday life. The Report from the Tagesschau points out that Germany is increasingly affected by extreme weather conditions. Tobias Fuchs from the German Weather Service recently explained that previous extreme years are now considered normal. Large cities in particular are struggling with the consequences, as heat waves are increasingly affecting vulnerable population groups.

In addition, pollen allergy sufferers suffer from a shorter winter rest period, while agricultural operations have to cope with increased flash floods, floods and droughts. The challenges are enormous, and experts warn of the drastic consequences that await us when it comes to climate protection. Any missed measure could further increase global warming and worsen the situation.

Looking ahead to the coming week, a cooling down with rain is in the offing, followed by partly sunny days before temperatures could recover. It remains to be seen how the weather will develop in the near future - but one thing is certain: the warmth of summer is far from over!
