Truck fires on the A113 and A13: traffic in Berlin is at a standstill!
On Wednesday morning, two truck fires significantly affected the traffic situation on the highways around Berlin. Drivers had to be patient, especially on the A113 and A13, where there were large-scale closures. This reports daily news.
There was a closure in both directions near Adlershof on the A113 in particular. The reason: A trailer with fresh fruit caught fire during the night. The full closure was necessary to enable the fire department to extinguish the fire. The southern carriageway of the A113 was reopened on Wednesday morning, but the northbound lane remained closed until midday. Drivers also experienced a similar situation on the A13, where a semi-trailer burst into flames between Mittenwalde and Ragow. The A13 then also had to be completely closed in the direction of Berlin. The exact duration of this closure is still unclear; traffic will be redirected via Groß Köris. Fortunately, there were no injuries in either fire, but police are investigating the cause of the fire.
Fire hazard from trucks
A look at the statistics sheds light on the problem. How NDR According to reports, truck fires are not uncommon on German highways, especially in vehicles from MAN, one of the leading manufacturers. Between January 2023 and August 2025, 33 truck fires were recorded on the A7, with 27 of these incidents involving TGX and TGS vehicles manufactured between 2016 and 2019. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) sees the situation as a serious risk and has already launched recall campaigns to ensure that damaged components are replaced in a timely manner. Despite these measures, fires continue to occur, which is dangerous for both drivers and emergency services.
In total, over 37,000 MAN vehicles were affected worldwide, with around 12,700 being recalled in Germany alone. The MAN company itself describes the fires as rare isolated cases and points to possible maintenance deficiencies as a possible cause. Many entrepreneurs with MAN fleets report economic damage, while firefighters are confronted with dangerous missions.
Efficient transport with CONNECT
In the midst of such incidents, Rumpf WALTER's CONNECT online platform represents an important step in logistics. This platform, which is free and password-protected, allows users to track their transports in real time and provides information in the event of unforeseen events, such as traffic jams. As on the website of Truck Walter described, users can access information about the estimated arrival time and milestones that have already been reached. Such tools are important, especially when unexpected obstacles arise on the roads.
Road safety remains a key concern for drivers and logisticians. The ongoing investigation into the causes of the fire and the need for maintenance checks are essential to preventing future incidents and making roads safe again.
