Mitte asks: How clean is our Berlin really? Join us!
Anyone who believes that a clean cityscape is just a question of maintenance is wrong. In Berlin, a lot of work is currently being done to keep the capital clean. A comprehensive survey on city cleanliness has been running since June 16th and will last until July 31st. In the middle of the city, more precisely in the Mitte district, this initiative was launched to improve the quality of life and the appearance of Berlin. Are you eligible to participate? Yes, all residents aged 16 and over as well as guests who are temporarily staying in Berlin can cast their vote using an anonymous online form. A small incentive: with a bit of luck you can win attractive prizes, including tickets for sporting events and an exclusive tour of the Red Town Hall, informs tag24.de.
As district councilor Christopher Schriner from the Green Party explains, the feedback from the population will help to increase cleanliness in the city and evaluate measures that have already been implemented. This survey is part of the Berlin-wide “Cleanliness & Order” target agreement and complements the successfully launched campaign “Mitte Macht Clean”, which began in March. It is hoped that the results will provide clear information about how citizens experience the cleanliness of Berlin and what improvements are necessary to create a more livable cityscape.
Comparison with other cities
Other cities are also working with similar concerns, as stuttgart.de reports. A citizen survey dedicated to International Garbage Collection Day started here on June 17th. In Stuttgart we find out how citizens feel about the cleanliness and safety of their city. Around 1,000 employees of the Stuttgart waste management team work every day, and the survey is intended to incorporate citizen feedback into the evaluation of the services.
The Berlin survey pursues the same goal: improving city cleanliness. The information collected from the survey will be incorporated into future urban cleanliness measures, which is of great interest to both clients and citizens. The success of such surveys depends crucially on the participation of citizens. After all, an engaged population makes the difference in the cityscape.
