ING sets transfer limit: Protect your money from fraudsters!

From mid-May 2025, the ING introduces a new transfer limit of 2,000 euros per day for all giro and extra accounts. This measure serves to protect customers from fraud and unauthorized access to accounts. With the new limit, the bank would like to prevent criminal accounts from being able to quickly vacate. In addition, customers have the option of viewing and changing their personally adapted transfer limit in the ING app or online banking at any time, and free of charge.

After an adjustment of the limits, there will be a waiting time of four hours from the increase for security reasons before the new limit becomes active. However, there is no waiting time for transfers from the extra account to the stored reference account. Customers can make changes via the app under "Service" or in online banking under "Settings".

adaptation options of the limits

customers also have the option of setting the transfer limit both permanently and limited in time. This adjustments are particularly important if specified transfer limits in online banking are no longer valid in online banking before March 2025. However, transfer limits do not apply to permanent orders and appointment transfers, so that they can still be carried out without restrictions.

In addition, users must ensure that their ING app is updated to the latest version (from version 8.20.1 for iOS & 8.18.1 for Android) in order to be able to use the transfer limit in full. Community accounts offer the opportunity to set individual limits for all account holders.

precautionary measures in online banking

With the introduction of the transfer limit, the need for precautionary measures in online banking is also pointed out. There are numerous security risks because online banking is a popular destination for criminals. Phishing is a widespread method in which criminals try to get to PIN, password and TAN from bank customers. These are often attacked by fake emails that resemble the official communications of the banks.

In such emails, users are often asked to click on a link that leads to a fake website. Personal data such as account number, PIN and TAN are queried there. To protect yourself, it is important to never reveal personal access data or passwords in digital messages. In addition, customers should always check their account details carefully and have a vigilant eye on suspicious activities.

The introduction of the transfer limits is another step of the ING in order to increase the safety of its customers in the digital banking transactions and minimize the risk of fraud.
