Revolution on Alexanderplatz: Thunberg demands help for Gaza!

On June 9, 2025, there was a remarkable demonstration in Alexanderplatz in Berlin, in which several hundred people protested against the stop of the activist ship "Madleen" with relief goods for the Gaza strip. Under the motto "Stop the attack on the 'Madleen'", the participants called for the shipping of the ship that had been stopped by the Israeli army shortly before its goal reached. According to the police, "people in the middle three -digit range" took part in the event. The demonstration was peaceful, there were no noteworthy events, reported a police spokesman.

The activists, including Greta Thunberg, had started their journey from Sicily on June 1st to draw attention to the humanitarian emergency in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the “Madleen” had been stopped for non -authorized ships on the basis of the sea blockade that had been in force since 2007. The crew was towed to the Israeli coast, where water and sandwiches were provided. Israel announced that passengers should return to their home countries.

protests in Israel

In parallel to the protests in Berlin, thousands of people in Israel demonstrate for a ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza war. In Tel Aviv in particular, people took to the streets to demand the release of the hostages. The slogan "The people choose the hostages!" chanted, while the forum of the hostage members calls for a comprehensive agreement for the release of the deported. This is done in a context in which the war was triggered by a terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed.

The shocking reports of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip show that over 54,700 people were killed and the situation is catastrophic. A new distribution mechanism for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip was set up by the Gaza Humanitrian Foundation (GHF) after their previous distribution centers had been closed because of the "big rangs" and threats of the Hamas.

reactions and outlook

The campaign by Greta Thunberg and her colleagues were viewed by some as a media provocation, since the cargo of the ship was classified as slightly. Nevertheless, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition announced that despite the stop, they will not give up and set sail again to fight the blockade. The conflict for humanitarian aid for Gaza and the Israel Palestine conflict remains a hotly discussed topic in public discourse.

The military conflicts and the associated intensification of the protests in Israel and abroad illustrate urgency to improve the humanitarian situation and to find solutions for the ongoing conflicts. The dynamic development in this situation remains to be seen, as both international and local voices continue to push for relaxation.
