The Stasi documents archive in Neubrandenburg offers valuable insights into the methods and structures of the GDR state security. On Wednesday, June 4th, at 5 p.m., an event will take place that deals with the work of the Ministry of State Security (MfS) in the region. The aim is to explain the scope of the filing of the file and the way the Stasi works. During the tour, visitors should learn more about the network of secret apartments in Neubrandenburg and use the opportunity to make a personal application for inspection of the Stasi documents. The archive comprises around 2,500 running meters of Stasi documents, including over 800,000 index cards and numerous image and sound documents. These documents come from the former district administration of the MfS in Neubrandenburg and its 14 district agencies. The written tradition is divided into two groups: archived shelves and documents from the service units, which often contain loose leaves without personal access. In the archive tours on June 4th, the focus will be on the topic "Use of the documents for personal processing". Those affected can receive information on site and find out about the access to the files of the State Security Service (Stasi). These documents are not only important for personal processing, they are also crucial for researching the GDR history and the injustice regime of the SED. For students from the 9th grade, the archive also offers numerous educational offers. These range from lectures to project days to internships in the archive area, where the students can also write their homework on topics such as the founding of the district administration of Neubrandenburg or civil courage in the north of the GDR. In addition, the Stasi documents archive was incorporated into the Federal Archives in 2021, which now kept a total of about 111 kilometers of Stasi files, including photo, film and sound coarse.
