worrying trends

The increase in sexual assault is not an isolated case, as the current federal laying picture of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) shows. This was presented by Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser and the BKA Vice President Martina Link on July 8, 2024 and refers to data on sexual abuse offenses against children and adolescents. It is frightening that the numbers have more than tripled in the past five years, and in 2023 the police registered 16,375 cases of sexual abuse, which corresponds to an increase of 5.5 % compared to the previous year. The role of the Internet, which functions both as an act and as a crime scene, is particularly alarming. The BKA is working intensively to educate numerous undiscovered acts, especially in the family environment and to expand the supportive structures to ensure the safety of children. The increase in employees in the past three years has been a first step to fight these worrying developments, as on bka.de can be read.

In a time when many incidents are hidden in the dark field, the education and sensitization of the population is of crucial importance. The Berlin police and the BKA therefore call up all citizens to be more attentive and report suspicious observations immediately. The safety of our children should be a top priority for all of us - here is the goal of ensuring a safe environment in which everyone can live freely and without fear.
