244 million euros for BER: Brandenburg decides financial injection!

Brandenburg, Deutschland - On June 20, 2025, the Brandenburg state parliament adopted a double budget for the years 2025 and 2026. The associated financial injection for BER Airport, which is estimated at 244.2 million euros, is particularly exciting for the region. However, these funds are not intended for the current financial year, but are planned for 2026. A complete financial plan for BER provides for a total of 660 million euros to cope with the economic challenges. At the moment, further funds from Berlin and the federal government are being negotiated to ensure their share in 2026.

Finance Minister Robert Crumbach described the new household as a "balanced" plan, which includes investments for economic stabilization and the necessary structural savings. There are changes, especially in the field of education: from February 1, 2026, the lesson obligation for teachers will increase by a lesson at many school types. However, the financial funds available for this increase by 180.2 million euros to a total of 1.963 billion euros. This means that teachers should be relieved elsewhere.

economic framework for the BER

The situation for the BER remains challenging. Although the airport has had continuous growth since the end of Corona pandemic, the number of passengers has not yet been at the level that was observed at the Schönefeld and Tegel airports before pandemic. In May this year there was a decline in passenger numbers for the first time. According to the Federal Association of German Air Traffic Management (BDL), 8.5 million seats on BER will be forecast for the period from June to November, which corresponds to a small growth of two percent compared to the previous year.

In order to achieve the intended financial independence of the airport company (FBB) by 2026, the company is intensively working on the company through financial institutions. Airport chief Aletta von Massenbach emphasizes that the debt -moving plan is consistently implemented. It is advantageous that 2021 airport was released by strict EU financial requirements that were previously anchored in a renovation concept. This sets the course for an independent future of the provider, and FBB is optimistic.

political and public reactions

The majority of the coalition factions, consisting of SPD and BSW, voted for the double budget, while the opposition fractions-AfD, CDU and some BSW MPs-voted. The design of the budget was decided by the state government on March 28, 2025 and has been advised by the specialist committees and the Committee on Household and Finance since then. A total of 285 amendments were treated, which underlines the commitment and interest of the MPs.

The discussions in parliament showed that the budget is not only regarded as a financial instrument, but also reflects the political landscape and public interests. The end of the provisional housekeeping now gives the ministries and authorities the opportunity to concrete the planned measures.

The Brandenburg state parliament has taken an important step into an independent financial future with the adoption of the double budget and thus bravely uses both the challenges and the opportunities that come to the region.
