The demand for balcony power plants is experiencing a real boom in Berlin and Brandenburg. More and more households are choosing to install small solar systems that can be easily mounted on balconies or terraces. In Brandenburg, on the other hand, renewable energies were over 50 percent in 2024, with wind power playing a particularly important role. Funding and legal framework

With the goal of covering a quarter of electricity needs with solar energy by 2035, the options for consumers to use solar technology are currently narrow. Nevertheless, there are signs of improvement: planned changes to tenancy law and property ownership law are intended to make the installation of balcony power plants easier. Private operators are currently allowed to feed a maximum of 600 watts into the public grid; the limit could be raised to 800 watts - a step that will benefit many users.
A typical one-person household consumes between 1,300 and 1,800 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, although up to half of the electricity requirement can be covered with a balcony power plant. However, it should be noted that excess electricity is passed on to the public utility, but without compensation. The payback period for installing and maintaining such a solar system is estimated to be around six to seven years, which does not deter many interested parties but rather encourages them to invest in the future of sustainable energy rbb24.
Overall, it can be seen that balcony power plants are becoming a valuable alternative in the field of renewable energies not only in Berlin and Brandenburg, but also overall. Despite certain challenges, the market for solar technology is optimistic about the future.
