Search for the old days: Hand grenade discovered in the Eberswalder Hort!

A hand grenade, a remnant from the Second World War, caused excitement in Eberswalde on June 12, 2025. Children discovered the explosive relic that stuck in the ground on a gravel field of a after -school care center in Ammonstrasse. They quickly informed a person responsible, which prevented worse. Specialists of the ammunition recovery service were called on the spot. The evacuation of the surrounding residential buildings, a total of nine people, was necessary and a blocking circuit of 50 meters was set up. The subsequent demolition of the functional grenade was achieved without incident, and the residents were soon able to return, as reported.

In a similar situation, a hand grenade was discovered at Heringsdorf Airport, also on June 12th. There, an unusual souvenir caused confusion: a lighter that resembled a hand grenade was in the luggage of a 78-year-old woman from Luxembourg. Here, too, the ammunition recovery service was consulted, which finally gave the all -clear - there was never a danger to life and life. However, the passengers had to wait in their machines from two landing aircraft during use, while visitors to the airport were brought to a nearby restaurant. This incident was documented by Nordkurier

historical locations and ongoing rescue work

But the discoveries of war relics are not only limited to Eberswalde and Usedom. In the vicinity of Dassow, enormous 2.5 tons of ammunition were recently discovered during civil engineering work, which also came from World War II. The finds included bottle grenades, armor fists and hand grenades. This discovery required an immediate barrier of the area and the involvement of the ammunition recovery service. It is not uncommon for the remains of war to be found in and around Dassow, since the region previously housed a ammunition factory. As early as 2004, spicy pilot grenades were found during the excavation for a power line, which explains the still active rescue work in this area, as the Ostsee-Zeitung reported.

In recent years, grenades from the Second World War have been discovered again and again, which underlines the importance and necessity of ongoing rescue work. Fortunately, accidents in the disposal of these dangerous remains are rare, but every discovery is an indication that the traces of the war have an impact on today's time.
