Worldwide clean-up day: Barnim invites you to the big open day!
An exciting event will take place in the Barnim region on September 20th: World Cleanup Day. This is not only an opportunity for individuals to take action against pollution, but also an outstanding citizens' movement that mobilizes millions of people worldwide. Loud Barnim district works The festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. The event is organized by the Kreiswerke Barnim and various partners and offers a diverse program for the whole family.
The highlights of the day include opening speeches from the district administrator and mayor. Musical performances and a stage program also ensure a good atmosphere. There are free screenings of the film “Holy Shit”, especially for film-loving visitors. On this special day, it is also possible to visit Germany's first research and recycling facility, which is not only informative but also a good opportunity to see firsthand how recycling works.
Creative hands-on activities for young and old
Various topics relating to waste, energy and environmental education are offered at information stands. Children up to the age of ten can let their creativity run wild in the painting competition. There is also an exciting competition rally where stamps can be collected. A bouncy castle ensures that the little ones also get their money's worth. Driving schools with BARshare to the Ostend landfill are available to offer exciting insights behind the scenes. Photomobiles will take family photos that can serve as a lasting memory of the day.
There is also a lot on offer in terms of cuisine: various snacks and drinks from local suppliers round off the offer. Admission is free, registration is not necessary. However, it is recommended to use public transport as a free shuttle bus runs from the market square to the event. An important note: The Eberswalde recycling center is closed on September 20th.
Addressing a global problem locally
World Cleanup Day is not only a fixture in Barnim. Millions of people in 191 countries take part every year and collectively over 53,000 tons of waste have been removed from nature. Various clean-up activities took place in the Barnim Nature Park in 2022, for example at the Bernsteinsee in the municipality of Marienwerder and in the Lehnitz district. Independent of Global Day, the Barnim Nature Park and the tourism association are continuously working on further campaigns to eliminate plastic waste and environmental pollution.
Further support is the gripping tongs for cleanup campaigns, which can be borrowed from 2023 and are available for a deposit. These can also be borrowed up to 20 times by hiking groups from the tourism association in Wandlitz. In this way, awareness of the problem of the plastic crisis in the region is increased and the population is invited to actively lend a hand.

Educational projects aimed at students promote active and responsible behavior.
