Brandenburg an der Havel competes against the Danes: City cycling starts soon!

Brandenburg an der Havel will be pedaling again from September 7th to 27th! This year the city is in direct competition against its Danish sister city Ballerup. The aim of the campaign is to cover as many kilometers as possible by bike and thus make an important contribution to climate protection. Every member of the city has the opportunity to become part of this cool challenge – whether as a resident, student or club member.

On the starting day, September 7th, the ADFC (Allgemeine Deutscher Fahrrad-Club) is organizing an exciting rally that motivates cyclists and at the same time increases the anticipation of cycling in the city. The event is part of the Climate Alliance's international campaign, which is committed to promoting cycling and raising awareness among cyclists. A special highlight will also be the “Kidicall Mass”, which will be held on September 21st as part of European Mobility Week. The focus here is on the concerns of children and young people in road traffic - under the motto: "Roads are there for everyone!"

Cycling for everyone

Anyone who wants to integrate cycling into their everyday life can take part in the city cycling in Brandenburg an der Havel. Whether with a classic bike or an e-bike, every kilometer counts. Last year, over 1,000 participants logged almost 192,000 kilometers between them, which equates to an impressive number of almost five trips around the world and avoided around 32 tons of carbon dioxide. This year the city is aiming for a goal of 200,000 kilometers!

Particular attention is paid to the student team: the team with the most kilometers cycled can hope for a cycling campaign package. Even the best cyclists can get vouchers from a local bike shop. Mayor Steffen Scheller would like to motivate citizens to actively participate. “Let’s pedal together!” was the encouraging call from the city leader.

Meeting points and further details

The rally on September 7th offers several meeting points: Cyclists can meet at 2:30 p.m. at Kirchmöser train station as well as at various other locations such as the Mahlenzien fire department or the Gebrüder Grimm School Hohenstücken. The destination is the Packhof, where arrival is planned for around 4:30 p.m.

Registration is possible via the city website or the CITY CYCLING app, which offers very practical functions such as GPS tracking and team chats for shared tours. If you have any questions, please call Anne Andersen on (03381) 58 80 10 or send an email to anne.andersen@stadt-brandenburg.de. Supervisors are also being sought for the starting points of the rally - those interested can contact Marcel Welte at marcel.welte@brandenburg.adfc.de.

All in all: City cycling is not just a competition for kilometers, but rather a lively community activity that combines the joy of cycling and the responsible treatment of our environment. Mobilize your neighbors and friends and let’s pedal together!
