CVJM Brandenburg celebrates 175 years: A festival full of joy and tradition!
There is reason to celebrate in Brandenburg an der Havel: The Christian Association of Young People (YMCA) recently celebrated its 175th birthday in the historic Wichernhaus, Hauptstrasse 66. This house has been the central point of contact for the club's activities since 1863 and has changed significantly over the years. Originally used as St. Elisabeth Hospital, members have been able to experience a lot of history there over the last 162 years.
The celebrations attracted numerous visitors, including Mayor Steffen Scheller, who warmly congratulated the club. The festival day was packed with a colorful program: from an inviting cake bazaar to an exciting raffle, to activities such as carving stick bread and international cooking, everything was there. Even the little ones got their money's worth, as face painting, craft stalls and games made faces smile. The highlight was the live performance by the Bad Belzig band “Gsus 7”, which created a great atmosphere.
An open offer for everyone
The CVJM was founded in 1850 as a Christian community for young men, but has developed into a contact point for “young people” since the 1970s. CVJM Brandenburg has set itself an exemplary mission: to give every child and young person - regardless of background or social circumstances - access to meaningful leisure activities and Christian education.
Our club offers a wide range of leisure activities. Whether in the form of “Discoverer Kids”, “Ten Sing” or the “JET – Young Adult Meeting”, the CVJM has something on offer for everyone. Sports, such as volleyball, and special groups such as “parent-child groups” or a “dinner lounge” are also on the program.
Strong together for the future
People of all ages, ethnicities and denominations come together in the CVJM community. This diversity is supported by over 50 volunteer members and a full-time youth representative. The well-founded basis of the association is the “Paris Basis” from 1855, which aims to connect young people in their faith and actively promote them, according to the overall association.
For the future, the CVJM Brandenburg plans to further expand its offerings. A big event is just around the corner: the traditional book flea market, where everyone is allowed to browse for treasures. DVDs, CDs, records and more are offered here at low prices. The proceeds go to children, youth and district work in the Wichernhaus. Donations in kind are welcome until November 7th on weekdays between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
176 years after its founding, the CVJM Brandenburg remains an important part of the community - committed, open to everyone and full of life. This anniversary celebration impressively showed how valuable the association's work is for the city and its young people.
