New education center in Brandenburg: Revolution for schools!

In Brandenburg an der Havel, planning is currently underway for a new education center, which will serve as a central element for the education of children and young people in the future. Numerous citizens who were interested in the project were present at a joint meeting on Wiesenweg. The initiative aims to create, among other things, a primary school, a high school and a double sports hall. These new facilities are intended not only to meet educational needs, but also to provide a better quality of life through green schoolyards with seating and play areas. In addition, bus stops and new routes are planned to increase accessibility. The planning of the education center is no coincidence. Those responsible find inspiration in Scandinavian educational buildings, which serve as models for a modern spatial concept. This concept is adapted to the different pedagogical approaches and learning formats. At the meeting, SPD parliamentary group leader Daniel Keip emphasized the urgency of the project, which was necessary to eliminate existing capacity problems in schools and at the same time improve the educational opportunities for children in the region.

Equal opportunities in education

The connection between urban development and education is a central issue in large settlements, as a conference on this topic showed. In Germany, around eight million people live in such settlements, and one in five tenancies belong to them. Despite the challenges that come with social disadvantage, the goals are clear: a successful educational biography for all children and young people, regardless of their social background.
