Brandenburg and Ballerup: New musical collaborations on the way!
The town twinning between Brandenburg an der Havel and Ballerup recently experienced another highlight. On June 17, 2025, a delegation from Denmark visited the Brandenburg city. The event begins in the historic Ratskeller, where the guests and hosts came together in a convivial atmosphere over dinner together. This type of exchange is not only a sign of friendship, but also an opportunity to build cultural bridges and promote mutual understanding, as [kult-newsletter] explains.
The next day we continued with a full program: the delegation visited the Vicco-von-Bülow music school, where headmaster Arndt Jeschke presented exciting possibilities for future musical collaborations. Existing projects, for example with the Emmerich Smola Music School and the Music Academy in Kaiserslautern, were discussed. Initial ideas for exchanges with Danish choirs and music groups were also very well received during the discussions.
Culture in focus
Cultural networking was also at the forefront of the encounters. Dr. Jürgen Peters from the association “erlebnis Altstädtischer Markt e.V.” spoke about the further development of the traditional Christmas market, incorporating Danish Christmas traditions. Because the lively exchange between cultures is one of the central objectives of town twinning, as [bbag-ev] also emphasizes. Such initiatives not only help strengthen the community, but also promote appreciation for different ways of life.
After lunch in the cafeteria of the Brandenburg University of Technology, another highlight took place: a two-hour boat tour on the picturesque waters of Brandenburg. This opportunity not only offered space for personal exchange, but also for strengthening the existing friendships between the two cities. In this context, Mayor Steffen Scheller emphasized the established connection between Brandenburg and Ballerup, which has been continuously strengthened over the years.
Encounters and exchanges
On the last day of the visit, the city museum was explored under the direction of museum director Anja Grothe. The tour included insights into the Gothic House and the Frey House. Afterwards, the Danish guests had the opportunity to enjoy regional dishes and make further contacts over an asparagus dinner in Mötzow. A meeting with Christian Heise, the organizer of the World Skateboarding Championships, was also very well received; He maintains close connections to Ballerup and could provide new impetus for the exchange.
When asked about the goals of such city partnerships, [kult-newsletter] states that they extend far beyond the cultural area. Aspects such as promoting tourism, creating new educational collaborations and strengthening international relationships are also essential. Linking different cultures and acting together in a globalized world are at the top of the agenda.
The interesting discussions and positive feedback from the spectrum of visitors show that the town twinning between Brandenburg an der Havel and Ballerup is still alive and continues to provide new impetus for cooperation. These partnerships are not only opportunities for communication, but also platforms for creative exchange and sustainable development in a globalized society.
