Brandenburg arouses interest: Citizens shape the future of Gerostrasse!
Sustainability and citizen participation are the focus of a new urban development project in Brandenburg an der Havel. From September 1, 2025, citizens will have the opportunity to find out about the current status of Spange Gerostrasse and to actively participate in the planning. This initiative responds to the growing challenges caused by the increased traffic volume in the city, as reported by the [City of Brandenburg](https://www.stadt-brandenburg.de/pressetermin/ participation-zum-staedtebaulichen-draft-spange-gerostrasse-ueber-adhocracy).
As part of this project, an information event will take place on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Brandenburg Nord high school. Here, citizens can comment on the urban development plan for Gerostrasse via the Adhocracy Plus platform. This draft is an initial idea for the future development of an area and aims to reconcile various demands on space - such as living, working and relaxation. The concept is informal and serves as a framework for later planning, as explained on the Adhocracy Plus platform.
Citizen participation and an open ear for suggestions
Citizens are invited to submit their comments and suggestions on the design of the framework plan. This shows how important participation is in urban development. As the Federal Agency for Civic Education emphasizes, sustainable urban development requires a fair balance between current and future living conditions. The interests of future generations must also be taken into account, which is encouraged by involving citizens in this process.
The planned realignment of the L98 is particularly interesting, which should lead to improved traffic flow. This will also increase the attractiveness of the Nordring. The planning process includes several phases and specialist planners are already active to advance transport planning until December 2025. A presentation of the current planning status and an explanation of the next steps will take place in the first week after the summer holidays.
An integrated concept for Gerostrasse
The study area in and around Gerostrasse extends over approximately 12.92 hectares and includes several adjacent streets and buildings. The first steps in developing the urban development concept began in October 2022 with city walks in which the population's suggestions were documented and integrated into the planning. This transparent approach shows a good understanding of the needs of local residents.
The final phase of the urban development design will also begin next October 2025, in which the collected online participation will be evaluated. The urban development concept is scheduled to be finalized by the end of 2025, with a decision being made in the first quarter of 2026. This will lay a solid foundation for future development and sustainable urban design in Brandenburg an der Havel.
In summary, it can be said that citizens are facing an exciting project that is not only intended to improve the traffic situation, but also offers space for active participation in shaping the city. This is a real benefit for the community!
